Sometimes, when we think of “self-esteem”, most of us think that self-esteem is linked or related to some sort or relationship, but that’s not the case. While we spend more time categorising self-esteem, we forget the biggest part of the word that really matters and that’s the self of self-esteem.
Some of us – most of us – do not consider the importance of taking care of self. What we fail to realise about self-esteem is once we learn to take care of self then our esteem tends to elevate.
In this article, I will share five simple ways to boost your self-esteem.
Make Time For Yourself
For those of us that are selfless instead of selfish we have the hardest time taking me time. One way to boost your self-esteem is stepping away from everything and appreciating who you are. Use your me time to go on vacation and just get away. Don’t look back and don’t worry about the chores or to-do list you’ve left behind, just go!
Put Your Phone and Electronics Away
Sometimes your esteem takes a dive when you connect to social media and other online outlets and you tend to see what everyone else is doing. While reading this you may think visiting social media is not a big deal and it shouldn’t impact your emotions. Social media, however, could affect your self-esteem because when you see other friends, family or associates doing good things (such as getting married, starting a new relationship or starting a new family) although you are happy for them, you start to compare yourself to the good things that are happening online.
In most cases, when we don’t feel we equal up to what we’ve seen, that’s when our emotions and our self-esteem plunge. Do yourself a favour and take a break from your phone and electronics.
Exercise. Exercise. Exercise!
Believe it or not, the better we feel, the better we look. And the better we look, the more our self-esteem is boosted. This also works for your appearance so take time to dress up a bit even when you don’t really want to.
When I feel down in the dumps, I pile on tons of makeup. So, for the makeup gurus reading this, try this tip to perk up your personality. Remember if you look good you tend to feel good too!
Change Your Circle
For those of us who are nurturers, this tip may help you to shape your emotions. Who would think that something as simple as changing your circle of friends can help boost your ego? When we hang around certain people for so long, we don’t even take in account of how negative they can be towards life and towards us. Don’t allow people to talk negative about you or to you.
Keep in mind that this rule doesn’t apply to your real friends but if you start to notice that your self-esteem only takes a nose dive around a certain sect of people then it’s time to change your circle!
Join a Crowd
For those of us who are loners, this tip is for you. Put your book down, get out the house and join the crowds. Easier said than done, trust me from personal experience I know. The more people you surround yourself with, the more you tend to gain more compliments which instantly boost your self-esteem.
Rub elbows with the best of the best people. Trust me, you will thank yourself later.
Remember, these tips are just a start as to how you can boost your self-esteem. Find hobbies and extracurricular activities that makes you smile and go for it!
