The eyebrow. A facial feature that can pretty much define you. A bold statement that both men and women of the 21st Century shape and edit to fit their personal style and outward opinions on life in general.
Too bold a statement? Maybe. But the eyebrow has the power to sell your emotions, even when you’d rather they remain silent.
Throughout the years, eyebrow trends have changed; probably for the better, with bolder, more natural looking shapes finding their way into modern culture, fashion and overall aesthetic. 2019 saw the rise of bigger, flared statement appearing on the covers of magazines and in other fashion outlets from the runways of Paris to the billboards of New York. But what statements make for a good eyebrow style and which options drag your fashion know-how through the mud?
Culturing the most attractive brow primarily depends on the shape of your face and the curve of your eye - it’s not a one size fits all kind of thing and should be taken rather seriously if you’re looking to kill a look with a striking glance alone.
If you’re rocking an oval-shaped face you’re in luck; pretty much any shape will work for you; be conscious of high arches though - this will give you a stern look that might not fit your everyday style.
Square faces need a softer brow - this will give your face, well… a softer look all round; try a linear brow that owes its credit to the Korean fashion staple.
Rounder face shapes need the most attention; you’re looking for a mid-weight brow that’s not too thick but not too thin with a more linear feel and slight arches; this will help to slim the face.
Longer faces are thirsty for thick eyebrows with shorter lengths and minimal arches to help shorten the face.
Contemporary techniques resulting in thicker brows with a brushed out look and fuller colouring started to appear with softer arches, straighter tails and feathery textures. Maybe RuPaul’s Drag Race fan favourite, Valentina, had something to do with this; maybe not - but I’d like to think that she had a whole lot of influence here.
Although the Latina goddess’ painted look didn’t quite carry the au naturel fantasy, the modern woman can capture this glamorous style with the help of a trusty eyebrow pencil widely available across the market - from the professional Anastasia Beverly Hills Perfect Brow Pencil all the way to the edgier Kat Von D Signature Brow Precision Pencil; there’s bound to be a staple waiting to be discovered no matter how brand loyal you are.
