People often overlook the importance of their hands' appearance on a daily basis. While everyone brushes their teeth several time a day, how many of us dedicate the same amount of time and efforts to taking care of their nails?
When you first meet someone, while the first thing you notice is their smile, your attention soon after moves onto their hands, so you want to make sure you don't get caught off-guard.
To help you take better care of your nails and, consequently, the appearance of your hands, here are some tips and tricks we have put together!
Keep your fingernails dry and clean
All problems start with germs and bacteria so making sure to clean your nails regularly, always drying them after washing, will help prevent bacteria from forming.
Stop biting your nails!
Biting your nail causes a lot of damage, not to mention the harm you can cause to your cuticles as well. Besides the damages caused from an aesthetic point of view, putting your fingers in your mouth is not exactly the most hygienic thing to do... So, next time you feel the need to bite your nails, think about all the germs and bacteria living under them and simply don't!
Tame your cuticles
As we said, cuticles are very delicate and get ruptured easily; taking good care of them is a crucial part of nail care. Make sure to moisturise your cuticles regularly – apply cuticle oil and massage gently to nourish them.
Just like moisturising your cuticles is important, don't forget to also give some attention to your nails. They are, in fact, very delicate as they tend to break very easily. Choosing a good moisturiser might help prevent that; a hand cream or cuticle oil specifically designed for nails will help you keep them looking shiny and healthy.
Trim your nails regularly
As trimming your hair is good for its growth, trimming your nails and shaping them is equally good as it helps improve their strength, leaving your hands looking beautiful as well as healthy.
Apply base coat for protection
Base coats form a protective layer, preventing your nails from getting discolored and stained.
They also make the polish look better so, next time you decide to paint your nails, don't forgot to apply some base coat!
Top it up with a top coat
Once you've applied base coat to protect your nails, choose the right colour for your skin tone and don't forget to use a top coat! This, in fact, helps your nail polish last longer, also adding a touch of shine to your nails.
Wear gloves when cleaning the house
If you are doing household chores, then don't forget to wear gloves. Most cleaning soaps and detergents contain chemicals that will cause harm to your nails when they come in contact with them. A simple solution to this problem is to wear gloves and do your chores happily without having to worry about your nails!
Choose a good nail polish remover
Choosing the right nail polish is as important as finding the right nail polish remover. Choose one with less chemicals, preferably from a good and sustainable brand. This will prevent your nails from being stained and damaged.
Lastly, your nutrition will also have a huge impact on the appearance of your nails! Eating well fixes everything and many nail problems are also the result of unhealthy diets and calcium deficiency.
Make sure to have a varied diet that includes calcium, vitamin E, protein, iron, and vitamin D and you will soon see improvements not only in the way your nails look, but also in your overall health!
